Together with the Collegium Muscium choir, the orchestra of the RWTH Aachen shape the official university ensembles. Next to students, employees and teachers of the RWTH, also other music-enthusiastic from Aachen's student landscape make up the about 60 members.
Rehearsels take place every Monday during the lecture period from 7:30 to 10:00 pm at Aula 1 of the RWTH Aachen. The language during the rehearsels is german. Close to the end of each lecture period, the orchester performs its concert most of the times twice here in Aachen. Every other semester a joint program of orchester and choir is rehearsed and presented. Hightlights from the previous semesters are the "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff, the Verdi Requiem, the symphonie in d-minor by César Franck or the Vilionconcert by Tschaikowsky.
Besides the regular concerts at the end of each semester, the orchestra of the Collegium Musicum also performs at other events of the RWTH Aachen, in the industry or at various cultural events in Germany and aborad. In addition, the RWTH Carbon Quintett consists of orchestra members and is an impressive combination of science and music, giving concerts with a broad repertoire in various occasions.
